We here at GameWatcher report on PC gaming. Not that there’s anything wrong with consoles–okay, actually, there are some things, but that’s beside the point–but it’s not our focus. But if Microsoft keeps moving the Xbox One in the direction it’s going, the lines between Xbox and PC news are going to start getting real thin.
Most notably, Xbox One games will soon be getting what Microsoft is calling “cross-network play.” That’s distinct from cross-platform play, which the company already offers between certain Xbox One and Windows 10 titles. Cross-network games can potentially work with other consoles and PC networks that aren’t directly tied into Microsoft servers.
The first game to get cross-network play will be Rocket League. Xbox One and PC players will be able to compete when the feature launches later this Spring, but there’s no word if Playstation players will be in the same pool.
