Hitman, the upcoming episodic reboot to the popular assassination series, will be getting some new “live” gameplay modes designed to challenge a player’s skills.
The “live” modes are challenges IO Interactive will issue to players as a community. For example, “Elusive Targets” are custom-created targets that appear for a limited time on certain maps. The challenge? They don’t show up on the map nor on Instinct mode. Rather, players are given a video and a photograph. ”You’ll need to explore, find your target, learn their patterns and come up with a plan to eliminate them - all whilst playing.” During “Elusive Targets”, the save game is disabled, so if the player misses their shot, and can’t come up with a plan B, the target will escape and that’ll be it. ”We know that Elusive Targets are not going to be easy, they were designed that way.”
Another gameplay mode is “Escalation”, in which the gamer plays increasingly harder missions on a single map, which forces players to completely familiarize themselves with the layout of the area. ”As an example, the first stage could be to eliminate your target with a sabre. Then, the second stage could be to eliminate your target with a sabre whilst dressed as a waiter and removing any security camera recordings within two minutes. We are able to change where the security cameras are and also add additional ‘security’ measures to the locations, such as laser trip-wire explosives that you’ll need to avoid.”
“Contracts Mode” will be familiar to anyone who’s played Hitman: Absolution. Players mark their targets and invent ways to assassinate them, then upload them to their friends, challenging them to do it in the same way, only faster. “Live Challenges” will be a community-wide variation of Contracts Mode. ”These challenges will be an homage to some of the more elaborate, amusing, difficult or creative feats that we see our players complete.” The Live Challenges are still in beta, however, and its status is fluid and evolving.
The first two chapters of the episodic Hitman reboot will be released this coming 11th March 2016, with new chapters being released throughout 2016.
