The images released by Cyanide Studios reveal some of the dangers players can expect to come across in Styx: Shards of Darkness.
Styx: Shards of Darkness, the sequel to Styx: Master of Shadows, will be sporting a new engine – Unreal Engine 4. This will be a considerable upgrade to the last game which ran on Unreal Engine 3, though we expect the game to run slightly worse on older machines.
“One of the hostile factions you will meet in the huge underground city of Korrangar is composed of the Dark Elves. Dark Elves were previously Elves who had to live without any amber for multiple generations.” Cyanide explains in their press release. “Slowly, they have been turning into fanatic and bloodthirsty creatures. They became masters in Quartz fabrication, a new, much more dangerous, source of power. They are also experts at goblin hunting and the Exterminator Dark Elf is proof of that. He has honed his skills to perfection, and is able to flush out pesky creatures hiding in dark corners and hard-to-reach places with toxic bombs.”
Trust us, we know you are probably excited at the thought of taking on the Dark Elves but you must hold back your elation! If you are lucky enough to be attending E3 this year, you can experience Styx: Shards of Darkness. Lucky you!
As we mentioned earlier, Styx: Shards of Darkness is the sequel to 2014’s Styx: Master of Shadows. You can read our review of Master of Shadows by clicking here. John-Paul Jones wasn’t very impressed with the game, labelling it as a ”master of mediocrity”. Here’s what John-Paul had to say about it: “As such, it’s difficult to recommend Styx: Master of Shadows to all but the most hardcore shadow skulker when the many other games that have come before it have all done the whole stealth thing that much better.” Here’s hoping Cyanide Studios can learn from the mistakes of Master of Shadows and turn Shards of Darkness into a better game.
Styx: Shards of Darkness is scheduled for release some time this year for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
