Virtual Reality and horror are two great things that when combined can offer a terrifying experience like no other. With the ability to be fully immersed in the sights and sounds of a virtual world is there little wonder why anyone would be excited at the possibility of a VR game based on everyone’s favorite xenomorph?
VG 24/7 reports Sony head Jurgen Post told MCV:
[blockquote]“VR has caught the whole company’s attention. We have a lot of VR kits in the office and people are playing with it. We are exploring ways to release games. We’ve not announced anything, but we are very close to making an announcement. We did Alien: Isolation about three years ago on Oculus Rift, it was a demo that was bloody scary. To bring that back to VR would be a dream and dreams can come true.”[/blockquote]
While Alien: Isolation has unofficial VR support it is, like many things with unofficial support, buggy and could benefit from some serious love and care. Crawling through the halls with a blood thirsty alien waiting to lay its eggs in your chest close behind you is bound to give more than a few players nightmares and cold sweats.
If and when this will happen is anyone’s guess as the MCVUK article goes on to quote Post as saying: “VR will take time, but we will start releasing some titles just to learn. It is a platform for the future.” So there might be some wait time. But what is for certain is that Sega is at least keeping an eye on VR.
