Conquest and expansion in Age of Wonders: Planetfall rely quite heavily on knowing how to annex sectors, alongside a slew of other small elements and mechanics that come with the game's transition to a sci-fi setting.
Maps in Age of Wonders: Planetfall are comprised of large areas called sectors, which play host to a variety of different resources. In order to annex them, you'll need to establish a nearby colony of your own and clear out all hostile troops inside them.
Age of Wonders: Planetfall How to Annex Sectors
As soon as enemy forces are cleared, the sector becomes eligible to be annexed. You'll know that's the case when you spot a yellow glow on its central hex.
It's also important to note that you'll need enough population to annex a sector in Age of Wonders: Planetfall. Moving your troops to the central hex will give you a number of different options, including that of annexation.
Annexing a sector in Age of Wonders: Planetfall takes its toll on your food and water supplies, so it's ideal to make sure you can take the hit prior to expanding.
It's also worth knowing that you can only annex sectors adjacent to your Colony Center or adjacent to sectors that are adjacent to your Colony Center.
Each sector comes with a selection of resources which can be exploited, after annexation, from the Production tab, although there's a limit to how many sectors you can exploit at a given time.
After exploitation is complete, you get the option of going for a final project that grants a permanent bonus to your chosen exploitation type.
