Anno 1800 saw the popular city building series returning to its historical roots, a decision that many fans applauded. With a third season of post-launch content now underway, members of the development team spoke on where they’d like to see the series go next in a Reddit AMA that took place yesterday. Answers included a fantasy entry, others set in Antiquity, and East Asia.
Over the years, the Anno series has largely dealt with the past, taking a detour and exploring the near and far future in two of its more recent entries. That still leaves plenty of ground to cover within history and outside it.
“I wouldn’t rule out a fantasy-based Anno,” UI Designer Ubi-Farah said, noting that “settings like Lord of the Ring, Game of Thrones, or Harry Potter could work.”
Antiquity was also brought up in some replies from developers who said that they’d personally love to see the series exploring Rome, Egypt, Greece, or Persian settings. East Asia was also mentioned and would, indeed, be a breath of fresh air for the series.
While all of the above could, to some extent, fit Anno’s fantasy, Brand Manager Com_Raven did point out that the team members were just “stating our personal preferences,” asking players to not take the answers “as a hint towards Anno’s future.”
Over the course of the AMA, the developer repeatedly said that its main focus was on Season 3 and the content it will bring to Anno 1800’s Old World session.
Where would you like to see the series go to next? Are you wishing for a Season 4 or do you think it’s time to move on? Let us know in the comments below.
