Anthem took the first spot on the UK charts during its release week, at least in terms of physical sales.
While it did overtake Far Cry New Dawn and Metro Exodus, in a week that was very busy with high profile releases, Anthem only managed to sell half the number of physical copies that Mass Effect Andromeda sold during its first week. Andromeda itself sold only half the copies that Mass Effect 3 sold in its first week.
It's worth keeping in mind that Chart-Track only takes physical sales into consideration. Not only is Anthem a title that emphasizes its online component, but digital sales are constantly on the rise. The first 10 positions on the chart are occupied by the following titles:
Without knowing the number of digital sales, it's difficult to gauge just how well (or poorly) Anthem has performed. EA expects Anthem to sell between 5 and 6 million copies by the end of March. It remains to be seen how much the title's rocky launch will affect the numbers.
