Carmageddon is back with Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, but this time around, there’s a new veteran studio behind the wheel and the carnage is driving into the roguelite space. This is everything we know about the legendary vehicular video game series’ return so far.
Though details are scarce for now, we have enough to set up this page and collect every bit of chaotic information on Carmageddon’s long-awaited comeback, which is being developed by 34BigThings, the studio behind Redout and its sequel, among other games. Keep an eye on this article as fresh news and trailers hit the road.

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift Story
We’re not expecting a lot in terms of story from a new Carmageddon game, especially if the new vision for the property involves a roguelite structure, but here’s the basic premise for its world:
“The year is 2050, and the world you know is a post‑apocalyptic wasteland. Hordes of nightmare creatures, the Wasted, lay siege to humanity. Every night, the streets are overrun, forcing everyone to barricade themselves in their skyscraper-homes for survival. There is just one chance to escape all this: the Carmageddon.”
The official description reads more like a new Twisted Metal reboot, and then we have zombies roaming around the land, but after Carmageddon practically being dead for a while, it’s hard to get too hung up on the details.
Carmageddon: Rogue Shift Gameplay
The folks at 34BigThings have already shown players they excel at making speedy video games, so the studio seems like a perfect fit for the Carmageddon IP from the get-go, yet the teased roguelite element brings all sorts of possibilities to the table while keeping things strictly single-player.
The Steam description is teasing a combat-racing roguelite, with both racing elements and Twisted Metal-like vehicular combat coming together across a number of different modes. As for the roguelite elements, expect many upgrades and power-ups (as well as randomized racing routes) that can make Carmageddon: Rogue Shift highly replayable in fresh new ways.
This is the full list of features shared so far:
- 15 upgradeable vehicles – FWD, RWD & AWD, each with unique weight and suspension.
- Metal‑on‑metal car combat – crash, shove, boost and side‑bash rivals.
- 13 weapon classes – from shotguns to railguns, all fully upgradable.
- 80+ perks – craft outrageous synergies for destruction racing supremacy.
- Dynamic weather & day‑night cycle – rain slicks the tarmac, fog shrouds ambushes.
- Elite & Boss events – colossal war‑rigs, corrupted Enforcers, and endless zombie hordes.
- Extensive visual damage model - windshields, hood, doors, bumpers and trunk lid will bend, crumple, hang and detach.
