Publisher and developer Irregular Shapes has unveiled City Tales - Medieval Era, a city builder that focuses on creating “vast and organic Middle Age cities that evolve naturally,” as its debut title during today’s PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted showcase.
Rather than restrict players to grids, the city builder offers “complete freedom” in terms of planning and designing towns.
City Tales - Medieval Era Reveal
City Tales - Medieval Era’s economy has us juggling 50 different types of resources, while the promised 60 building types are “built and upgraded based on the environment and other nearby structures,” according to the developer.
What starts as a small town eventually grows into a sprawling city that houses Great Wonders like cathedrals or live marketplaces.
As the title’s welcoming, hand-painted aesthetics suggest, the studio aims to craft an accessible, relaxing city builder in which “time won’t limit creativity.”
Interestingly enough, it also pays attention to the narrative side of things, as a cast of companion characters aid us in constructing our cities. Not only that but our decisions “shape how [their] story unfolds,” which should contribute to the title’s replayability factor.
City Tales - Medieval Era is currently targeting a 2025 release on PC, via Steam Early Access. You can get a first glimpse of it in the trailer below.
