Update: Bloomberg Reporter Jason Schreier claims to have obtained an internal email in which CD Projekt co-CEO Adam Kiciński apologizes to the studio’s employees for the way he talked about Cyberpunk 2077 crunch in the call to investors covered in the original article below.
“From the bottom of my heart, I would like to apologize to everyone for what I said during Tuesday’s investor conference call. I had not wanted to comment on crunch, yet I still did, and I did it in a demeaning and harmful way. Truth be told, it’s only now, when the stress connected with the delay decision and the call itself is lifting, that I’m fully realising the true extent of my words.
“I have nothing to say in my defense. What I said was not even unfortunate, it was utterly bad. For that, please accept my most sincere and honest apologies.” Kiciński said before letting employees know that he’s open to talking directly with anyone willing to do so, either in person or on Slack.
Original: It’s been an eventful month for Cyberpunk 2077, the RPG seeing its third delay only a few days ago. Earlier, a report also revealed that devs would have to crunch in the lead-up to release.
In light of the game’s most recent delay, CD Projekt joint CEO Adam Kiciński took part in a call to investors during which he also addressed the topic of Cyberpunk 2077 crunch.
“Regarding crunch; actually, it’s not that bad – and never was. Of course it’s a story that has been picked up by the media, and some people have been crunching heavily, but a large part of the team is not crunching at all since they have finished their work,” he said.
Cyberpunk 2077 Crunch
“It’s mostly about Q&A and engineers, programmers – but it’s not that heavy; of course, it will be extended a bit, but we have feedback from the team; they’re happy about the extra three weeks, so we don’t see any threats regarding crunch.”
During the same call, Kiciński also revealed that the developer feels “maybe not comfortable [chuckle], but confident” about Cyberpunk 2077’s December 10 release date.
Delayed after going gold, the highly anticipated RPG’s shifting release date has also led to Path of Exile moving its 3.13 expansion</a> launch to January 2021.
