Devil May Cry is a bit of a guilty pleasure for many gamers worldwide, and after the last iteration of the famous franchise turned out to be, well, something of a dud, it is not surprising that the announcement of Devil May Cry 5 made many people very, very happy.
In an interview with the Famitsu magazine, some of Devil May Cry 5's developers stepped up to share some information on the series' upcoming instalment, and we've collected the most interesting points here for your reading pleasure.
First things first, the goal for the game's visuals is photorealism this time around, as well as a constant and consistent 60 FPS for smooth and nicely balanced combat. To achieve said visual style, Capcom have taken to not only 3D-scanning people, but also clothes and items.
Moreover, move-cancelling is going to be an actual feature, but the procedural animation will assist in not making these manoeuvres overly annoying and unnatural-looking. Again, this is because the game is going to look very, very true-to-life, and move cancel doesn't mesh well with that sort of style.
Additionally, we know that the game's music will change melody and tune as players achieve higher combo counters, so expect lots of audio ramping up if you're doing well! Developers are hoping to incentivise players to play better more organically this way.
Confirmation was also given about there being <three playable characters</b> in Devil May Cry 5: Nero, Dante and a mysterious third person, who is rumoured to be able to spawn demons to fight in their side. Moreover, the setting was chosen because Capcom wanted a Nero who is at the top of his game and more than a little distressed, so the game is set a few years after the events of Devil May Cry 4.
Devil May Cry 5 is going to be playable on this year's Gamescom, and is slated for release sometime in Spring next year on both PC and consoles.
