Diablo 2: Resurrected now has eight playable classes, courtesy of its Reign of the Warlock major update, which is live across all platforms, also bringing the action RPG to Steam. Although Blizzard describes it as an update, we’re actually looking at a premium expansion-style content drop that echoes Diablo 3’s Rise of the Necromancer, setting us back $24.99/€24.99, or regional equivalent.
Announced as part of the series’ 30th Anniversary Spotlight showcase, which also confirmed the Warlock is headed to Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal, the Warlock is described as a summoner who “dominates demons, binding them to his will, and consuming them when it suits him.”
Diablo 2: Resurrected Warlock Class Now Available
Diablo 2: Resurrected’s Warlock can summon three demons – the Goatman, Tainted, and Defiler –, each having its own abilities and strenghts.
The class can also “bind or consume nearly any demon found in the game.” The former allows the Warlock to benefit from unique demonic abilities. The latter eliminates the demon in exchange for different kinds of buffs.
In addition to its summoner playstyle, Diablo II: Resurrected’s Warlock class can also become a pure spellcaster “who channels chaotic magic, hellfire, and destruction.”
Eldritch skills then allow him to “manipulate weapons with his mind,” so we’re certainly looking at a rather versatile new addition to the action RPG’s roster of playable classes.
Diablo II: Resurrected’s Reign of the Warlock update also brings a series of gameplay changes, including new items and runewords to chase, several quality of life updates, as well as updated terror zones.
The latter allow us to use consumables we earn while playing to choose which act becomes terrorized. “While an Act is terrorized, every zone within it becomes greatly enhanced, spiking the difficulty, and offering bountiful rewards,” an article on Blizzard’s website reads.
On Hell difficulty, we’re stalked by Heralds of Terror, new enemies that hunt us, each subsequent herald becoming “exponentially more dangerous than the last.”
Finally, defeating a Terrorized Act boss yields statues. Combining five in the Horadric Cube grants access to the Colossal Ancients, a new pinnacle boss.
Loot filters and a variety of other additions are included in Diablo II: Resurrected’s Reign of the Warlock update, and you can read more about them by following the article linked above.
