With the first round of PS5 game trailers now out in the wild many of the games shown look fantastic. Horizon Forbidden West is no exception, following Aloy's story as she moves west to a dangerous frontier full of mysterious threats and awe-inspiring machines, while prompting questions about a potential PC release date.
Given how the original is currently available on Steam after its own period of PlayStation 4 exclusivity, it's not unreasonable for us to wonder about whether we'll hear about a Horizon Forbidden West PC release date at some point in the future.
Horizon Forbidden West PC Release Date
Sony is currently looking for more ways into the PC market, and so far has launched its version of Microsoft's PC Game Pass in the form of PlayStation Now along with releasing games onto the Steam store.
We have high hopes they'll continue with this business model, but they could also follow Microsoft even further and open their own PC store, cluttering our drives with yet another launcher. Either way, it seems clear that Sony is investing more and more into cross-platform availability.
- Horizon Forbidden West PC release date: TBA, rumours suggest it could be released in October 2023
That being said, there is currently no word on when a potential Horizon Forbidden West PC release date might occur.
There is word from a reliable leaker called billbil-kun that Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition will be the next PlayStation title to crossover to the PC platform. "Its release should be imminent, estimated at less than a month from now." said the leaker in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Sony has largely stuck to bringing older exclusives to PC thus far, although Returnal making its way to us might suggest a slight change in approach.
Hopefully, this means that it won't be long before we'll get to play Horizon's acclaimed sequel without having to purchase a console.
In an interview from May 2023 with Famitsu, translated by ResetEra, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan suggested that, while PC ports remain part of the company's strategy, they may continue to launch years after the PS5 versions.
"We also fully understand the importance of PS5 exclusive titles. As I mentioned earlier, PlayStation Studios' main responsibility is to have people enjoy the game experience using the latest PS. We are increasing the number of PS5-exclusive titles and staggering the release of the PC version," Ryan said.
"I often have the opportunity to ask game fans for their opinions, and when I ask them about the time lag, they say that selling the PC version two or three years after the release of the PS version is accepted favorably."
This could mean that we'll have to wait a bit longer before we hear anything about a potential Horizon Forbidden West PC release date.
Aside from a sprawling world to explore, Horizon Forbidden West brings some notable graphical improvements that are as close to next-gen as it got at the time of its launch.
