Riot Games has revealed its plans for League of Legends’ upcoming champions in the September 2020 roadmap while also providing an update on the awaited Dr. Mundo rework.
The studio aims to continue along the path of releasing six new additions to its roster per year. Both a mid-lane mage and a support champion are in store for the remainder of 2020.
The LoL September 2020 roadmap also points out that another character from the MOBA’s lore will be added as a playable champion next year. This is attributed to how well Yone and Senna were received by the community.
League of Legends September 2020 Roadmap
“I don’t know about all of you, but I have become a fan of so many champions over the years. Have any of you become so charmed by a champion, that you hang posters on your walls, play their theme on repeat, and lock them in every game you possibly can?” the roadmap asks about one of League’s upcoming champions.
“Regardless of your current level of fandom, when Piltover and Zaun’s new rising star finally hits the promenade, she might convert you into an instant mega-fan. I hope you’re all ready to crowd around her and cheer along!” it continues.
While it’s difficult to say just who the new champion is, there’s a chance that Riot’s digital influencer Serahpine could make her way into the game before the end of the year.
The next champion is less friendly, being a dangerous runaway criminal that favors heavy armor. They also “attack if even slightly provoked” and are able “to mount a quick retreat when cornered”.
Riot also teased a “romantic new jungle skirmisher, who will be twisting hearts and possessing minds early next year.” If anything, LoL’s roster won’t be lacking thematic variety.
As far as the Dr. Mundo rework is concerned, the developer has heard the fans’ wishes of keeping the character’s comical nature.
“We really want Mundo to embody a kind of ‘dark comical’ theme that we feel would be very unique to League’s roster of champions.” reads the September 2020 Roadmap.
“On the gameplay side, we tried a lot of different things, but the one that really stuck was pushing further on the feeling that Mundo goes wherever he pleases. We’ve decided to move forward with making Mundo an extremely difficult champion to lock down. This direction requires us to give him meaningful trade-offs—having CC-immunity in any form is a powerful tool—so Mundo will remain a champion with no hard CC or mobility on his kit.”.
It’s definitely looking like LoL fans will have much to look forward to in the coming months and going into 2021.
