Masters of Albion, the upcoming god game from publisher and developer 22cans, led by the controversial game designer Peter Molyneux, has locked in its release date to late April, as revealed in a fresh trailer that gives us a look at how it actually plays.
Inspired by some of Molyneux’s classic titles and developed alongside a team of industry veterans who worked on the likes of Dungeon Keeper, Black & White, and Fable, Masters of Albion “reimagines” the god game genre for a modern audience, according to the publisher.
God Game Masters of Albion Gets April Release Date
When its April release date comes around, Masters of Albion will treat us to a blend of strategy, simulation, town management, and real-time defence elements.
The title gives us the freedom to build towns, manage subjects, and prepare defenses during the day, while tasking us with defending our followers and their abodes during nighttime, when malevolent creatures start roaming the land.
God game enthusiasts can find plenty that’s familiar in Masters of Albion, which is gunning for a bold mixture of elements.
It allow us to “design and build every structure,” hire workforce and ensure they have a place to live, as well as customize buildings and combine them into “unique multi-purpose structures.”
In addition, we can also use godly powers to literally throw boulders, exploding barrels, and people around, while also summoning lightning, fire, and other destructive spells to best our foes.
If we ever grow tired of playing god, Masters of Albion also allows us to possess followers, directly controlling “heroes, dogs, workers, and even chickens” from a third-person perspective. With quests to complete, equipment to craft, and a whole world to explore, it sounds like there’s plenty to do before night falls.
Surviving the night sees us relying on defensive turrets, walls, heroes – which we can directly control to face enemies in real-time combat, as well as god powers.
“Masters of Albion is the culmination of my life’s work, a game that owes so much to titles like Dungeon Keeper, Black & White, and Fable,” Molyneux said. “It’s a totally unique game that we hope will delight players, a game that brings God Games into the modern gaming landscape and puts the genre firmly back on the map.”
Masters of Albion has locked down its release date to April 22, 2026, when it arrives exclusively on PC via Steam.
