The end is coming for New World, Amazon Game Studios’ troubled MMORPG. As of January 15, 2026, it has been delisted from storefronts and is no longer available for purchase. Its servers will permanently shut down on January 31, 2027.
This was expected, following last October’s announcement that the game would no longer receive new content and subsequent layoffs at Amazon Game Studios.
New World Delisted From Sale, Servers Shutting Down in 2027
Anyone who has already purchased New World before it was delisted can continue playing the MMORPG until its servers shut down next year.
The developer has also confirmed that it is “extending the Nighthaven season until the servers are taken offline on January 31, 2027.” Furthermore, world bosses and bonus weeks will continue to be active through the remainder of the title’s lifespan.
In-game currency sales will cease on July 20, 2026, when “Marks of Fortune or anything else in-game” will no longer be available for purchase. The developer also noted that it won’t issue refunds for in-game currency.
“We want to thank the players for your dedication and passion. We are grateful for the time spent crafting the world of Aeternum with you. Together we built something special. While we are saddened to say goodbye, we’re honored that we were able to share so much with the community,” reads the post linked above.
“It has been our pleasure to work on New World: Aeternum and evolve this unforgettable adventure with you all. We look forward to one more year together, and giving this fantastic adventure a sendoff worthy of a legendary hero. From the bottom of all our hearts, thank you for sharing this world with us.”
New World’s explosive launch saw it reach an all-time peak of almost 910,000 concurrent users on Steam, proving the MMORPG community’s hunger for a major new release.
It, unfortunately, had trouble maintaining momentum despite receiving regular post-launch updates as well as an expansion.
October 2024’s revamp, under the name New World: Aeternum, promised a more solo-friendly experience but ultimately didn’t prove enough to keep the game from being shut down.
