Overwatch is still very much a focus for Blizzard, the company announced in a recent earnings call. Described as “a huge tentpole franchise” for the company, Blizzard will continue to support it with content for the future as it seeks to expand it as a franchise. Could an Overwatch Horde Mode be on the way?
The current Overwatch content model will persist at least for the remainder of 2018. As Blizzard President J. Allen Brack put it, the game will continue to receive “new heroes and new maps and new experiences”.
Overwatch Horde Mode?
He also stated that Overwatch developers are going forward keeping “the balance of working on the existing game as well as […] focusing on the other work that they have” in mind.
While no other details were given on what that “other work” could be, seeing an Overwatch Horde Mode eventually enter the fray as a fully playable mode wouldn’t be that outlandish. The team has experience with similar modes, judging from past events.
Obviously, “other work” could imply a number of other things from a larger expansion of sorts to a brand new game that, perhaps, focuses on the game’s lore. Until Blizzard reveals any specifics, have a look at the Overwatch events set to come later in the year, or listen to the earnings call over on website Seeking Alpha.
