At least one more RTS with lots of love for Command & Conquer is coming out this year. Enter Red Chaos - The Strict Order, the post-WW3 strategy game which is hitting Steam Early Access as soon as September 26.
Developed and self-published by Squarecut Games, Red Chaos is promising a beefy package when it launches next week. The key features of its early access build before any updates hit will be the following:
- Skirmish mode vs. AI with several difficulty levels
- Online multiplayer matches supporting up to 6 players
- Ranked 1v1 online multiplayer
- 12 tutorial missions
- “Refined gameplay” after rounds of pro player feedback
- Real-time observer mode
- Two playable factions: Iron Hand and The Resistance
- 6 “unique biomes” for the maps, ranging from 2-player duels to large-scale battles
If you want to get a proper taste of the game in action, head over to Squarecut Games’ YouTube channel and watch Red Chaos’ latest gameplay trailer:
As it stands, Red Chaos has been built with two “well-balanced factions” in mind; both will be expanded with subfactions as the early access phase of development continues. A proper story campaign, as well as other pieces of content and improvements, is also planned. In fact, Squarecut have already shared a pretty comprehensive roadmap of what lies ahead:
The lore of Red Chaos takes players to the Green Land, a region on Earth untouched by the fallout of a world war that rendered most of the planet uninhabitable. After a ceasefire and the promise of a fresh start for everyone, the Iron Hand regime, controlled by the rich and powerful, betrayed most citizens. As a result, a new war emerges, with former soldiers, generals, and rebellious citizens forming The Resistance.
The Squarecut Games devs say they “were shaped by the unprecedented rise of the video game industry and recognized the love for the RTS genre as early as the 90s.” Needless to say, Red Chaos is looking like an honest and well-assembled love letter we’ll be keeping tabs on.
