Starbreeze has licensed the Dungeons & Dragons IP from Wizards of the Coast to work on a video game it codenamed internally as Project Baxter, which will be developed using Unreal Engine 5.
Project Baxter is currently estimated to be released sometime in 2026, and will likely be developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.

Set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, Project Baxter will be a multiplayer co-operative game and will keep the traditional Games as a Service model, which Starbreeze is known for with franchises like the Payday series. It will feature crossplay between all platforms.
“When looking at prospective IPs for our future projects, Dungeons & Dragons was always at the top of our list and I’m incredibly happy to announce this license,” says Tobias Sjögren, CEO of Starbreeze. “Development of the game is in full swing, and we are excited to deliver an amazing Dungeons & Dragons action-adventure in 2026.”
Starbreeze has developed titles like Payday, RAID: World War II, Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons, and it worked on a licensed IP before with Overkill’s The Walking Dead.
