Publisher Sega and developer Creative Assembly have announced that their highly-anticipated grimdark grand strategy game Total War: Warhammer 40,000 has reached the 1 million Steam wishlists milestone mere months after its official unveiling.
With no release date in sight and only a sliver of gameplay shown off so far, this is a clear sign of the popularity of Games Workshop’s universe, which has, especially in recent years, been the setting for several great video games, including Space Marine 2, and Mechanicus.
Total War: Warhammer 40,000 Reaches 1 Million Steam Wishlists
“What a milestone! Thanks to your incredible support, Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 just hit 1 MILLION wishlists on Steam! We are beyond grateful and unbelievably excited to share more with you all in the coming months, so be sure to keep an eye on our social media channels,” the Total War team wrote in a Steam post.
Total War: Warhammer 40,000’s long-rumored announcement came almost a decade after its fantasy counterpart proved that Creative Assembly’s grand strategy series fit it like a glove, releasing a trilogy of games and many pieces of DLC.
Based on what we’ve seen so far, Total War: Warhammer 40K’s campaign operates on a different scale than the prior entries in the series. Its four launch factions are said to offer vastly different playstyles as the franchise prepares to make its console debut, courtesy of the new Warcore Engine.
Impressive as it is, the 1 million Steam wishlist milestone doesn’t necessarily guarantee that many sales for Total War: Warhammer 40,000 and, following Warhammer 3’s troubled post-launch support, Creative Assembly may still have a bit of an uphill battle to fight when it comes to convincing series die-hards to make the jump.
We’ll hopefully see more of the sci-fi grand strategy game throughout 2026. In other Creative Assembly news, Medieval 3 is also in “early pre-production.”
