Victoria 3’s second expansion pass is bringing new content to the Spanish and Portuguese Empires with Iberian Twilight, and its announcement trailer helps set the mood.
“Reverse the fortunes of the waning Spanish and Portuguese Empires in Iberian Twilight, an immersion pack for Victoria 3. Advance the banners of either reform or reaction as you endeavor to restore these once-mighty powers to their rightful place on the world stage. Reform outmoded political and economic systems and foster an agricultural and industrial revolution on the peninsula.”
Before we bite into all the details, you can watch the reveal trailer below:
With this new immersion pack, Victoria 3 gets new layers for the simulation of the Spanish and Portuguese empires as they lose influence in the 19th century. However, with all the freedom and alt-history scenarios possible thanks to Victoria 3’s signature systems and mechanics, maybe you can bring them back from the brink of collapse.
When it comes to Spain, the new key features are the following:
- Carlist Wars with two sides to pick
- Fighting against political instability and factionalism as liberal reform and counter-revolution clash
- The ability to expand its influence in both the Old and New World
- National institutions can be modernized, with the industrial boom in Catalonia and other regions at the center of your efforts
Meanwhile, Portugal gains era-specific additions of its own like:
- The fallout from the War of the Two Brothers
- Portugal’s fight to stay relevant as a big trading and colonial power across Africa and Asia
- The relationship with Brazil to foster a better future for both nations
The new content and changes also aim to improve every other nation and piece of Victoria 3 “in the orbit of the Iberian powers.” Furthermore, there’s also the possibility of trying to unite the peninsula under one banner with Iberism.
The announcement arrives after a boost in morale following notable post-launch support and substantial updates which have dropped alongside the paid content following mixed player feedback at launch. Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester also praised the Victoria 3 team’s work recently and said the game’s financial performance has been quite satisfying. Considering the publisher’s recent struggles, it’s good to see some hard-earned wins.
