There'll be more of a return to the 'modern day' setting in Assassin's Creed moving forward, says Ubisoft. Assassin's Creed: Unity only had brief moments through cutscenes where we weren't assuming the role of an ancestral assassin. Lead writer Darby McDevitt pointed to Assassin's Creed 2 and the town of Monteriggioni, which was playable in both past and present, and so they plan to "smartly reuse things" for a modern experience.

Charles Randall, who was Assassin's Creed 2's combat designer, has drawn attention to the very familiar feel of a young Ezio de Auditore in Middle-earth: Shadows of Mordor, but 'doesn't imply theft'. He asked why there are AC2 "code and assets" in Shadow of Mordor, and that he 'knows his code when he sees it'. Randall at least hopes he gets a "special thanks".

Ubisoft usher in the Assassin's Creed Heritage Collection. They bill it as a "high value compilation" starting with the original haystack-diver Altair in Assassin's Creed all the way through to frontier-exploring Connor in Assassins' Creed III.

Composer Jesper Kyd who has produced quite the resume in terms of scores for video games judges what projects he'll work on if it grants opportunity to "create something original, not who's developing it." Having said that though he'd "love to work with BioWare" once again, having partnered with them for MDK2. Kyd also said he was "humbled" by the "overwhelming reception" to his Assassin's Creed II score.
