SOE's Vanguard, Wizardry Online, Free Realms and Clone Wars Adventures closing

Sony Online has announced the closure of four MMO properties as they each saw numbers dwindle so low they feel they couldn't justify keeping the doors open. "No more kids games," declares John Smedley. Vanguard: Saga of Heroes had been performing poorly "a long time", admits Smedley. Free Realms and Clone Wars Adventures closed down first at the end of March.

Sony has announced the debut of a new convention devoted to Sony Online Entertainment MMOs, SOE Live. The convention will be located in Las Vegas, NV from the 18th through 21st October this year. The convention will take place at the Bally's Casino. The games that will be showcased at the convention include DC Universe Online, EverQuest, EverQuest II, Free Realms, Magic: The Gathering - Tactics, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. The convention will also debut PlanetSide 2.

Sony Online Entertainment says it will be "at least a few more days" before their MMOs begin turning back on again after the hack, which is better than *shrug*. Aside from the free 30 days subscription plus one day for everyday SOE remains offline, the company has outlined specific game goodies as a 'sorry' to users.

The PlayStation Network maybe leaking an ocean of digital identities to some nefarious group but Sony Online Entertainment's "databases are separate" and safe. DC Universe Online, Free Realms and other SOE users can breathe easy as no customer data "got out to any unauthorized person", or to their knowledge anyway.
