Midnight is almost here, ready to bring a wave of new features, revamps, and content, along with plenty of things you’ll want to spend your gold on. In this guide, we’ll walk you through all the gold-making basics and share tips and strategies that’ll help you earn more in the newest WoW expansion.
What to Do Before Midnight Launch
If you’re reading this guide before Midnight goes live, hurry up to get the most out of the Twilight Ascension pre-patch event. The event is packed with fun, easy-to-do content that’ll give you solid catch-up gear and other rewards that can be sold for gold on the Auction House. There are also special World Quests that reward raw gold, as well as unique Ritual Events, where you’ll hunt down Rare Elites, with a chance to loot some high-tier items for sale.
And if you’re ever short on money for a big purchase or just want to start the new expansion with a good stash of coins, there’s always the option to buy WoW gold and get any amount you need, fast and stress-free.
Quests and Campaigns
Quests are hands down the easiest way to make gold. They introduce you to WoW’s main narrative, ease you into the gameplay, and reward your first pieces of gear and gold.
Gold comes from completing quests or selling the rewards. Most quest items are not really valuable, so it’s better to sell them to vendors for some quick gold instead of wasting your time on the Auction House.
When it comes to Midnight content, make sure you quest through every single new zone and complete the entire new campaign. This will help you hit the new level cap of 90 quickly, unlock important new systems, gear up properly, and grab some easy gold along the way.
Open-World Farming
While you’re out exploring the world, you’ll naturally be killing and looting a lot of mobs. Just like with questing, you’ll be picking up raw gold directly from enemies, selling low-tier loot to vendors, and listing more valuable drops (like green Bind-on-Equip gear that is very in-demand for alt gearing) on the Auction House for a bigger profit.
Professions
Professions allow your character to pick up and master extra trade skills.
- Gathering professions (like Mining or Herbalism) let you collect raw materials from the world.
- Crafting professions (like Alchemy, Blacksmithing, or Enchanting) let you turn those materials into new items following certain recipes.
To unlock new recipes and improve the quality of your crafts and gathered materials, you need to level up your professions. Your skill improves naturally as you use the profession, but in order to move from one leveling bracket to another, you’ll need to visit a profession trainer. As you level your professions, you’ll also earn Knowledge Points that can be spent on different profession specializations to focus on specific crafting or gathering niches and get useful bonuses and perks for that.
The main way to make gold with professions is by selling everything you gather or craft on the Auction House. The game also has the Crafting Orders system, which allows you to take orders from other players or NPCs and complete them for gold rewards.

Pick Your Midnight Professions Early On
The first week of an expansion is the most profitable window of the entire expansion cycle, because the demand for basically everything is extremely high. Players will be throwing insane amounts of gold at anything that might give them an edge, be it consumables, gems, crafting mats, etc, so your job is to give them what they want and make money out of it.
If you pick your professions early on and level them as you’re questing through the zones, you’ll be progressing through two systems at once instead of having to come back and grind again later. Also, while exploring Midnight zones, don’t forget to collect profession treasures scattered across Quel’Thalas to get extra Knowledge Points and upgrade your specs faster.
What Professions to Choose for Gold-Making?
When it comes to gold-making, the iconic Mining + Herbalism combo is still a top earner at the start of any expansion, because ore and herbs are used in a huge number of crafting recipes, and the demand is absolutely wild. What’s more, these professions are easy to learn, don’t require complex setups, and are perfect for beginners. Also, don’t forget about items like Darkmoon Firewater, Argentleaf Tea, and Haranir Phial of Finesse that increase your gathering speed, which, in turn, boosts your gold per hour.
Among crafting professions, Alchemy is always a strong earner because it provides consumables that players constantly need for raids and dungeons. Tailoring is also a good pick, as it allows you to collect and sell cloth and turn it into bolts, bags, gear, profession tools, and other high-demand items. Enchanting gives access to evergreen enchants for gear and profession tools, plus you can always disenchant unwanted items into materials to sell or reuse. As for secondary professions, Fishing and Cooking work absolutely great as a combo: you can sell fish directly or turn them into food buffs with Cooking and sell those instead, saving a ton on crafting materials.
Housing Decor
A special mention goes to housing decor items, which are added as a separate category in Midnight.
To craft decor items, you’ll need:
- Lumber, a special resource that you can start gathering after completing a quest from the Player Housing introduction campaign
- The correct profession
- A high enough profession skill level
- The recipe
Like all new features, housing decorations are going to be extremely valuable during the first weeks of the expansion, especially those with hard-to-get recipes. If you manage to get your hands on a unique recipe, don’t waste any time and craft as many of those items as you can while demand is still high.
Dungeons
Dungeons are instanced group activities where you fight through a series of enemies and bosses for loot and rewards. Besides good gear drops and XP gains, dungeons also offer a very solid source of gold.
When it comes to gold-making, players usually focus on older dungeon content because, at max level, you can clear these instances very quickly, often solo, which makes them perfect for farming. Old dungeons drop a wide variety of items, including transmog pieces, BoEs, and crafting mats, which can fetch some really nice gold on the Auction House.
World Events & Weekly Quests
As soon as you hit level 90, go and pick up your weekly quests in Silvermoon, which serves as the main hub for the Midnight expansion (similar to Dornogal in The War Within).
Weeklies are extremely important. Completing them rewards you with reputation for various factions and a special reward chest that can contain gear (twice per week), upgrade currencies, and raw gold. These quests are tied to different activities and world events, and it’s crucial to grab them before doing any other content, so you can work on multiple objectives at once and be as efficient as possible.
Next up, make sure to pick up all available World Quests. They’re usually quick and easy but very rewarding at the same time, giving you raw gold, gear upgrades, and sometimes Coffer Key Shards. Once you collect 100 shards, you can combine them into a Restored Coffer Key, which is used to unlock additional rewards in Bountiful Delves. These keys will become very sought-after once the season begins, so you’ll save yourself a massive headache if you start farming them in advance.
On top of that, every Midnight zone is tied to a large World Event. Participating in these events is another great way to earn reputation and a reward cache with loot and gold.
