The story within the game is Gearbox’s own creation, penned by minds behind TV’s Battlestar Galactic. We get to visit ”fun play spaces” from Aliens.
”You’ll explore the cargo bay and you’ll see the milky trail from Bishop’s ripped-in-half body, and his legs,” Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford told OXM. ”The dropship that Bishop piloted, that Ripley, Hicks and Newt all escaped on, you’ll ride that. That’s still there in the hangar.”
Movie fans will recognise certain parts of the game but may also realise certain questionable pieces of Alien canon being explained. ”What’s interesting is its fiction, and sometimes the fiction actually has some mutually exclusive ‘facts,’” continued Pitchford.
They’ve ”identified some of those” and took them to 20th Century Fox, asking ”‘can we come up with something that makes sense?’”
“So what we think is mutually exclusive actually makes perfect sense if you only had this bit of information. And we’ve solved some of those problems, those are the fun ones.” Writers from Battlestar Galactica are helping to shape the original Colonial Marines story.
”Like, what happened to Burke? What happened to Hudson? They’re there, somewhere. They’re all fun play spaces that you get to visit after these events unfolded,” he noted. Aliens Colonial Marines releases on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC in 2012.
