Forza Motorsport 4 features more detailed graphics, especially on the interior, than ever before in the series. Turn 10 Studios’ producer Dan Greenawalt states that the attention to tiny detail can is due to Kinect.
“This is kind of a funny story but actually the graphics came out of Kinect,” Greenawalt related, “which I don’t think anyone ever exected.”
“Honestly, we started working on Auto Vista mode based on Kinect," stated Greenwalt, "(Players) will be able to walk up and move around the car, but if they were going to get within that sub six inch detail, you know really close in on the car, it had to hold up.”
Because of that, Turn 10 had to look at higher resolution models, a new lighting model, shaders for different materials, and then integrate it into the game. Forza Motorsport 4 has incorporated Kinect, but as an innovative head-turning mechanic in which the screen will subtly change as the player plays, based on the position of their head, mimicking a real driver's view.
