Following on from that wild multiplayer trailer, which would have caused twelve year old me to spontaneously combust from sheer excitement, EA showed off another of Star Wars Battlefront’s game modes during the Sony press conference at E3.
Survival Mode is basically another wave-based co-op mode in the same vein as the ones you’ll find in almost every modern shooter, and as a result is slightly less exciting than playing out the actual Battle of Hoth. Still, it has blasters, stormtroopers and AT-STs, so it’s still alright in my book.
I’m slightly leery about these standalone solo and co-op missions, which have the feeling of something thrown in to appease fans who were hoping for a singleplayer campaign, but the shooting does look pretty fun. There seems to be a nice range of famous Star Wars enemies to battle, and calling down an orbital strike on a bunch of unsuspecting Imperials looks like it’ll be an entertaining fireworks display. If only we could laser-gun some gungans to death, it’d be just perfect.
Star Wars Battlefront is out this November on PC and next-gen consoles.
