Under scrutiny and speculation for some time now, Jeff Kaplan has finally lifted the lid in the latest Overwatch develop update - the Summer Games event returns for another year.
Last year's Summer Games event was the first seasonal event Overwatch players took part in, and it essentially shaped the scope and feel of every event that thereafter. Somehow, a major perk for this year's event is how skins from last year's event will become available once more - American McCree is back.
Though Jeff doesn't grace us with that all-important event date, he does assure his audience that it's coming 'very soon'. In terms of cosmetic goodies, Mercy is to recieve one of Jeff's 'favorite skins of all time', and he assures Widowmaker and McCree fans are going to thoroughly enjoy what's coming. He also re-confirms the recent loot box update will affect event lootboxes too; so expect it to be much easier to get your desired skins this time around.

Overwatch Has Changed A Lot In The Last Year, But Our Review Still Adored Its Core
Back to Lucioball now. Understanding there wer e a number of cheese strategies present during last year's Lucioball event, they've removed Lucio's ability to 'boop' enemies - meaning no more standing behind the enemy goalie for a quick knockback. Similarly, the ball pull-back featured as Lucio's Ultimate ability last year has been swapped out for a drastic speed boost - meaning Lucio can dribble the ball much more quickly with his alt-fire and travel faster to accommodate that.
We can break this whole thing down to one small, sad point - there's no Doomfist volleyball. Though we'd usually have to wait to get a decent list of rewards, NeoGAF users have a list of mined details pertaining to how many items each character will get during the event. Certain sprays are related to the new 3-week Lucioball ranked mode, too.
