Even though it may be one of the most popular multiplayer shooters of a generation, Blizzard still want a bigger piece of the pie. They're holding another Overwatch Free Weekend event very soon.
Considering it's now Friday, releasing this info and having the free-play mode go live for the weekend is likely a bit of a stretch. That's why it isn't this weekend - it's the one after.
Just like every other Overwatch free weekend that's come and gone before it, this one will function in much the same way. Custom, Arcade and Quickplay modes will be available, and free players will have all the same privilages as paying players - like party invites, loot boxes, the full player roster and level-ups. Progress will be saved should a free player then decide to pick up the complete package, but itsn't clear whether players of past free weekends will carry on where they left off.

The only thing unavailable to free players will, understandably, be Ranked play. Despite having a level requirement, there's plenty of problems people could cause if that was allowed. Though with the recent release of Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch within the game's 'Arcade' mode, there's more variety than there was the last time this event rolled around. You'll even get to try the new Junkertown map.
If you're hoping to give it a shot, fire up Battle.net as the September 22 kick-off draws closer. Pre-load, and you'll have until Monday evening to join 30 million others. Not a bad deal!
