Just 24 hours after EA announced that they would be closing Dead Space developers Visceral Games because their long-in-development Star Wars title was going to be a "story-based, linear" game, the publisher have released a new trailer for Star Wars Battlefront II highlighting the story-based, linear campaign. Hmm.
Everything we loved and hated about Star Wars Battlefront 2!</b>
The Best Star Wars Games on PC! Guess how many of them are linear story experiences...</b>
The trailer, which is embedded below, is at least very exciting. We've already known that the story would follow elite trooper Iden Versio as she and her 'Inferno Squad' fight for the Empire in retaliation for the death of the Emperor. The new trailer shows some of the missions, planets, and characters Iden will be associating with. Previously unannounced planets include an invasion of Naboo and a visit to Takodana from The Force Awakens, with character appearances from Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Maz Kanata, and somehow possibly even Kylo Ren if that tease of a glove at 1:26 is him.
The trailer just gets us more excited for Battlefront 2, but we can't decide if the timing is coincidence or deliberate. We're sure EA was preparing a Star Wars Battlefront 2 single-player story campaign trailer, but coming just a day after saying that their next Star Wars game is being postponed to stop it being a single-player story campaign and the 20-year-old developer behind it is being closed? It could be their attempt at damage control. Don't worry Star Wars fans, there's still a game coming with a story in it! One game. One single, solitary game.
Nevertheless, we are excited about Star Wars Battlefront 2. We loved the multiplayer, but while we had some issues and the Loot Crate pay-to-win concerns are still worrying, we're very much looking forward to the game. Especially the single-player, linear, story-driven campaign.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is out on November 17. If it continues on its linear, story-driven path, that is.
