Developer Ubisoft Mainz has “no plans” to add a Docklands-style building to its upcoming city builder Anno 117: Pax Romana, confirming the same thing about “collection” structures such as Anno 1800’s zoo, museum, and botanical gardens.
Introduced in one of its predecessor’s post-launch DLCs, the Docklands allowed players to more easily secure resources without dealing with the stress and friction that came with setting up cross-island production chains while also managing different types of workforce. Although it did see quite a bit of love, especially from more casual players, the DLC was also contested by those who thought it removed a lot of the challenge that makes Anno fun.
Anno 117: Pax Romana Not Getting A Docklands-Style Building
Although it comes with challenges of its own, at its core, Anno 117: Pax Romana is designed to be less stressful than its predecessor, which is partly why it isn’t getting a Docklands-style building.
“No, there are no plans to add a similar feature like Docklands to Anno 117,” Senior Game Designer Ubi-Andrea wrote, responding to a question on the matter from a recent Reddit AMA.
“On a different note, I think the core of 117 definitely offers ‘less stress’ parts due to the Need categorization and how we split up the 2 provinces: You don’t need to fulfill all needs in order to reach the end of the progression, and you don’t need to go to the ‘other’ province to do the same.
“Needs are categorized by Food, Fashion, Household etc., and there are always multiple needs per category, and you can choose which of them to fulfill.”
They go on to explain that, unless we want to reach 100% need fulfillment, we’re not forced to create cross-region trade routes while getting by with securing fewer islands. The ability to choose which needs to target removes potential bottlenecks that a Docklands-style building would have more easily helped clear.
“And similarly, you don’t HAVE to have cross-province Trade Routes, since we also don’t force you to bring Albion goods to Latium or vice versa in order to ‘get to the end’.”
In addition, there are also “no plans right now” to introduce “collection” buildings, like Anno 1800’s zoo, museum, and botanical gardens, although no explanation was given as to why.
During the same Reddit AMA, the developer also explained why the Albion region won’t have its own monument project at launch.
