Blizzard has apologized for Overwatch 2's launch issues, promsing to offer players of its free-to-play hero shooter several double match XP weekends alongside free rewards in the shape of a legendary skin for damage dealer Reaper and a weapon charm.
Overwatch 2's launch has unfortunately followed in the footsteps of other online titles, being plagued by server issues and various other bugs that cast a shadow on the long-awaited sequel's arrival.
The developer has continuously worked on improving the game's stability since its early access launch and confirmed that another patch is slated to go live later this week.
"We apologize for any issues players experienced around the game’s launch. To help make up for any lost time, we’re planning to run several Double Match XP weekends: we will confirm the specific dates for these soon," a post on the game's website reads.
"We’ll also be giving all players who log in from October 25 through to the end of Season One an all-new Cursed Captain Reaper Legendary skin and a Health Pack Weapon Charm. These items will become part of your collection from the first time you log in during that time window."
The two items are welcome rewards for existing players who've kept fighting the game's queues and unstable servers but also act as an extra incentive to give the game a shot during its first season if you haven't already done so.
The double match XP weekends will likely ease the grind to progress through the game's first-ever battle pass, which sits at the center of its progression system since it transitioned to being a free-to-play title.
Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. If you're having trouble playing at the moment but still want to unlock in-game goodies for later, check out the currently active Twitch Drops.
