Historical grand strategy game Europa Universalis 5 has hit the ground running and, following a series of smaller patches, its update 1.1 release date aims to deliver a bigger batch of free content that makes the experience of leading a country through the ages more immersive and, potentially, a bit smoother.
Titled Rossbach and simply described as “big” in the first developer diary to mention it, EU5’s update 1.1 introduces more content for countries in the German region while also coming to the aid of military-minded players.
Europa Universalis 5 Update 1.1 Release Date
Europa Universalis 5’s patch 1.1 is currently slated to release in early February 2026, as confirmed by developer Paradox Tinto over on the Paradox forums.

“We are also working on a big free update named 1.1 - ‘Rossbach’ to be released in early February for things that are more risky and take longer time to develop,” Studio Manager Johan Andersson wrote.
“Our focus there is adding some more content to the german region, new clothes, hats & wigs for the 18th century europeans, new improved UI for army and mercenary recruitment and much more.”
The military UI improvements could include army templates, which Andersson previously said would be coming in the first free patch.
Going by its predecessors, EU5’s patch 1.1 should prove quite chunky while laying the groundwork for the grand strategy game’s first DLC, Fate of the Phoenix, which arrives in Q2 2026.
That is what we know so far about Europa Universalis V’s Rossbach update 1.1. More details will likely be shared in the lead-up to release, but developer Paradox Tinto won’t be resting on its laurels, aiming to deliver AI and performance improvements before the end of 2025.
