The PC Gaming Show Most Wanted 2025 stream was packed with exciting video game reveals, but few were as surprising as The House of Hikmah’s debut. It’s an olden 3D adventure with a heavy emphasis on narrative and puzzles; we don’t get many of those anymore, and Lunacy Studios seemingly has the talent to turn this pitch into something special.
The House of Hikmah, which is currently targeting a Q1 2026 launch on Steam, is a fully voiced-acted adventure which seeks to seriously explore “grief, legacy, and the search for purpose after profound loss.” Faris Attieh, Creative Director at Lunacy Studios, talked to us in depth about his own experiences, which shaped and birthed the story for the game, and the process behind assembling a new studio with talent from massive AAA games like Mass Effect and Journey.
Before we share with you all the details we know so far (while saving some for the interview we’re dropping soon), check out its announce trailer below:
“In the wake of her father’s death, Maya enters the House of Wisdom, a dreamlike sanctuary filled with centuries of knowledge. By transforming elements with the help of a mysterious device, she must decipher ancient puzzles created by historical scholars. Each door she opens brings her closer to understanding her father’s legacy… but unveiling the past means unleashing the shadows within. Maya must find the light to forge her own path through grief.”
The House of Hikmah has been described to us as an old-fashioned adventure with no violence (Lunacy Studios seeks to avoid it altogether), instead driven by exploration and the thrill of solving puzzles while learning about the Islamic Golden Age. Meanwhile, Maya will process and navigate complicated emotions.
That said, expect to meet a villainous element of sorts in the Widow, “a surreal force lost in her own unmanaged grief, pulling Maya into interactive dream sequences she must escape to confront her pain and despondency.” By tapping into history, philosophy, and the imaginative oneiric environments, Lunacy Studios might have something really special for those willing to embark on a different kind of adventure.
