Total War: Three Kingdoms is set to launch in just two days and developer Creative Assembly has revealed a few of its post-launch plans, as well as the first details on how it will handle DLC for the title.
Total War: Three Kingdoms will tackle its DLC using “a slightly different approach”. What this essentially translates to is the addition, at least initially, of Chapter Packs, a new type of DLC that lies “somewhere between a Culture Pack and a Campaign Pack” in terms of size.
“We’ll be taking notable chapters from Romance and creating new start positions that reflect their events. Adding a cast of new and familiar characters, features and objectives each time, that exemplify that chapter and the thrilling stories it tells.”, a post on the game’s website says about Total War: Three Kingdoms’ Chapter Packs.
While past Total War DLC has come with new characters and starting positions, Chapter Packs will also feature familiar faces from the main campaign, albeit at different stages of their lives. The passage of time means that they’ll also have different priorities and goals.
The Assembly Pack for Total War: Three Kingdoms will become available “shortly after launch”, opening the game to modders. The pack won’t be out on launch because mod-related bug reports can hamper the developer’s initial patching effort. Pre-loading is also currently available for those who want to jump in right after the game launches.
The latest entry’s strong focus on characters seems to have already garnered a following, the post revealing that 3K is the most pre-ordered Total War title ever. For our thoughts on the first historical entry in the series in almost six years, give our Total War: Three Kingdoms review a read.
