One of the biggest points of contention after Total War: Warhammer 3 launched was the inclusion of Denuvo Anti-Tamper software and its supposed impact on the game’s performance. A portion of the playerbase was having trouble running the title smoothly, while a number of people who had access to review copies claimed that it ran worse after the day one patch was deployed.
This led to speculation that Denuvo was not part of Total War: Warhammer 3’s review build and negatively impacted its performance. Today, developer Creative Assembly clarified in a Steam post that the former was not true while revealing that it is currently working on figuring out if the software has any negative impact on the game.
According to the developer, Denuvo was included in Total War: Warhammer 3’s review build, although the reason for performance worsening after launch “is something we are actively working to understand.”
In addition, it noted that the software was used in previous Total War titles and that “there may be some other factor at the heart of the problem.”
Creative Assembly describes Denuvo’s impact on Total War: Warhammer III’s performance as “not yet conclusive,” at least at the moment, but is “extensively testing the product to determine its full impact on the game.”
While these tests are underway, the developer has also shared its hotfix plans for the grand strategy game and the issues it is targeting.
One small hotfix was already deployed, with a second due to go live in one or two weeks’ time. The game’s first big gameplay balance patch is also expected to drop early next month.
Total War: Warhammer 3 is now available on PC. You can grab it from Fanatical, other major storefronts, as well as Xbox Game Pass.
