Developer Creative Assembly has announced that Total War: Warhammer 3’s hotfix 7.0.4 has been “recategorized” as patch 7.1, thanks in part to the number of issues it addresses, but also as part of “the general evolution of our hotfixes into much larger bundles of fixes.”
Slated to release on February 10, Warhammer 3’s patch 7.1 tackles issues regarding switching between The Masque’s Dances, the cockatrice being recruitable in campaign, a crash when loading into a co-op campaign featuring Malakai and the Masque, and much more. Full patch notes are expected to drop on February 9.
Total War: Warhammer 3 Patch Naming Scheme Changes to Reflect 2026 Priorities
“This also sets us up for changes to how we approach Patches for Warhammer III in 2026, with our focus this year being on resolving bugs, improving core game stability, and ensuring you’re able to have a better experience with the content you already own,” the developer explained on the game’s forums.
“Patches will less frequently include new content, larger QoL improvements and feature overhauls (but only for the time being) with these instead arriving as part of our larger Updates.”
The new approach enables the studio’s design team to give more of its attention to upcoming DLC.
Major reworks are planned as part as bigger updates that accompany premium DLC, with the Vampire Counts confirmed to receive some love when Lords of the End Times launches later this year, bringing us Nagash as a playable legendary lord.
Here is a breakdown of Total War: Warhammer III’s update naming scheme:
- Hotfix (X.X.X): Urgent fixes to high-impact issues introduced in most recent Update or Patch.
- Patch (X.X.0): Primarily bug fixes and balancing adjustments, may occasionally include larger QoL changes and new or refreshed content.
- Update (X.0.0): Substantial update accompanying paid DLC content, likely to include FLC content, race reworks, feature overhauls, QoL improvements, bug fixes and battle balancing.
Creative Assembly is also continuing work on Warhammer III’s campaign AI and siege improvements as its grand strategy game gets closer to receiving its biggest paid content update yet.
