AsTotal War: Warhammer 3’s Tides of Torment DLC steadily marches towards its early December release, developer Creative Assembly has finally detailed how the addition of Dechala the Denied One to Slaanesh’s roster shakes up the daemonic faction.
Leading the Tormentors, Dechala’s campaign is all about “subjugating the populations of captured settlements, binding them to her will as Thralls who fuel her war efforts and sustain her growing dominion.”
Total War: Warhammer 3 Dechala the Denied One
This champion of Slaanesh encourages bursts of expansion followed by stretches during which we focus on developing our newly conquered land while preparing for the inevitable future pushes into foreign territory.
The populations of conquered settlements become Thralls that act as Dechala’s primary campaign resource in Total War: Warhammer III’s Tides of Torment DLC.
To ensure a healthy Thrall economy, we need to set up three types of settlements. Thrall Camps form the backbone of our economy, adding Thralls to the global pool each turn. In addition, they also improve growth and replenishment while generating gold required to field units and pay upkeep.
They, however, also have limited populations and, when one is about to run out, leading to “a significant drop in productivity,” we need to secure more through conquest.
Tormentors Hold are the second type of settlement available to Dechala, acting as “military centres, dedicated to recruitment, provincial defence and the spread of corruption,” that can spawn units up to the middle tier.
Lastly, the imposing Pleasure Palace can only be built in provincial capitals by using Thralls rather than money. Allowing the recruitment of high-tier units like Keepers of Secrets, they act as not just bastions and important recruitment centers, but also “solid sources of campaign wealth.”
According to the developer, the income from “two or three upgraded Pleasure Palaces” can “mitigate the loss from declining Thrall Camps somewhat, which helps insure you against bankruptcy.”
As Dechala builds up her Pleasure Palaces in Warhammer III’s Tides of Torment DLC, she gains Decadence, a resource which she can spend on Tormentor’s Tributes, split into two categories.
Marks of Vindictiveness are “inexpensive, one-shot buffs which can be applied to your units in the pre-battle panel,” each one also having permanent upgrades that improve their efficiency.
Tormentors Tributes take the shape of Opulent Gifts – unique enchanted items that can be given to your Lords and Heroes – and six potent but expensive Exquisite Spoils that offer global bonuses tied to certain buildings in the Pleasure Palaces.
