As Total War: Warhammer 3’s troubled Tides of Torment DLC has finally locked in its release date to early December, developer Creative Assembly has shared its first content deep dive, exploring the mechanics and units available to the High Elves through their newest Legendary Lord – Sea Lord Aislinn.
His campaign, the developer explains, is “one of tremendous mobility,” during which he aims to secure the resources to expand his Dragonship fleet in order to thwart a Dark Elf plot to invade Ulthuan.
Total War: Warhammer 3 Sea Lord Aislinn
Total War: Warhammer III’s Tides of Torment DLC puts Sea Lord Aislinn’s starting position far away from the High Elf capital, in the waters of the Eastern isles. His main focus is that of swiftly conquering enemy settlements and dedicating their ownership to the six High Elf Legendary Lords – Tyrion, Teclis, Alarielle, Alith Anar, Imrik, and Eltharion.
Alongside the six characters’ support, Aislinn can establish Outposts and Elven Colonies to further his goals.
“Not every settlement is granted; some are taken as Colonies, capable of outfitting and enhancing the new Dragonships while unlocking bonuses to many aspects of his campaign and battle gameplay,” the developer explains.
“When he grants a settlement, it always becomes an Outpost. When he captures one, it becomes a Colony—but Colonies are limited in number, making their development a crucial strategic choice.”
Offering settlements to the six legendary lords in Total War: Warhammer III’s Tides of Torment DLC earns Aislinn Dedication. He spends this currency to unlock and upgrade Dragonships, improve Outposts and Colonies, as well as increase the capacity to build the latter.
Each legendary lord also offers different benefits that may fit better with different playstyles.
“For the most part, you’ll be constructing small resource-generating Outposts in these settlements. But if you capture and hold one, you may instead establish an Elven Colony - a larger sub-settlement whose chief purpose is to generate Dragonship Supplies, a critical resource for expanding and upgrading Aislinn’s Dragonship fleet.”
If outposts are smaller three-slot settlements, Elven Colonies form the backbone of Sea Lords Aislinn’s efforts, generating “a significant amount of Dragonship Supplies, and greater amounts of income,” based on the amount of Elven Trade available in outposts.
Elven Colonies can also produce units that aren’t available via Dragonships. Aislinn starts with one such vessel, his final goal being that of constructing five.
Each one “is capable of developing advanced building chains which unlock recruitment, growth, replenishment, unit rank and experience, recruitment capacity, and much more,” similar to Horde armies.
They enable the use of special Sea Lanes only available to Aislinn, as well as Mist Stance, through which you can “transition your armies from the sea directly to inland locations, or into direct conflict with any settlement in range.”
More information about what Sea Lord Aislinn can do as well as the new units he brings to the High Elf Roster in Total War: Warhammer III’s Tides of Torment DLC are available in the deep dive blog linked above.
