Total earnings for the mega Microsoft nation were up 5% to $19.95bn, of which $3.7bn came from the entertainment division. Kinect "far exceeded" hopes.
Yes the entertainment division revenue was up 55 percent year-on-year. Xbox 360 sales rocketed 21 percent compared to the same period the previous year, making it "the world's fastest growing game console" according to some.
Xbox Live membership has also spurted more success as it rose 30 percent.
"We are enthusiastic about the consumer response to our holiday lineup of products, including the launch of Kinect. The eight million units of Kinect sensors sold in just 60 days far exceeded our expectations," said Microsoft CFO Peter Klein.
"The pace of business spending, combined with strong consumer demand, led to another quarter of operating margin expansion and solid earnings per share growth."
By comparison their Windows business shed 29.7 percent in revenue to $5 billion and operating profits shrunk to $2 billion. Oh well, you can't win7 them all.
