Pete Hines says it’s not atop the agenda right now but they’re ”looking at doing some things” with it; its future is ”still TBD.” When gamers talk of id the ”first thing” mentioned is Doom 4.
Bethesda and id would very much like Rage to be all the rage, but priority rests with Doom 4 for the moment. So far no sales figures for the 2011 released shooter have been revealed.
”We’re looking at doing some things with Rage. But obviously the first thing out of anybody’s lips now when we talk about id is not, hey, what else is up with Rage? They’re asking the question they’ve been asking for five years, six years, seven years, which is, where’s Doom 4? What about Doom 4?” said Bethesda marketing head Pete Hines.
”As far as where we are with Rage, the future for that is still TBD.”
Work on Doom 4 remains highly secretive with the only concrete information being that the core team working on tech powering Rage had moved over to the project a while back. It was rumoured that Doom 4 had suffered cancellation but Bethesda dismiss the claim, but PR remains awfully quiet about it.
”It’s being worked on,” was all Hines would let slip at E3 this week.
What about that other title that looked so promising? What about Prey 2 from Human Head?
It’s not strictly cancelled but it’s certainly not arriving in 2012, noted Hines. The developer has apparently not worked on the project since February over a dispute with Bethesda parent company ZeniMax.
”What we said was it was not coming out this year and we’re still trying to sort some things out with Human Head,” he explained. ”That really hasn’t changed. I don’t have an update for you on that, other than it’s not coming out this year.”
Will Bethesda switch developers for Prey 2? ”I don’t have anything else I can tell you right now.”
