Herald is set during an alternate 1857, where the Western world is a single colonial power known as the Protectorate. Inequality and prejudice are now threatening to tear apart this great empire as it struggles to survive.
Indie Wispfire call it an ”Interactive Period Drama” where we play as Devan Rensburg, a man of mixed heritage searching for his roots. A Kickstarter campaign has begun asking for €15,000.
With 33 days left almost €3,000 has so far been pledged by nearly 100 backers. It’s a choice-driven point-and-click adventure set in a 3D environment for PC, Mac and Linux. There’s a demo available right now to play and Dutch studio Wispfire have themselves on Steam Greenlight.
It blends adventure gameplay with a visual novel as we journey aboard the merchant ship HLV Herald as a steward. ”…you are responsible for the well-being of all passengers on board, be they rich or poor, important or downtrodden. Your job is best done without anybody noticing, so if a conflict should arise, you are well-served to solve it before the captain gets wind of it.”
Will we help the less fortunate and forgotten, or look the other way and keep the powerful pleased? Check out the Herald Kickstarter campaign to learn more, and don’t forget the demo.
