The Witcher 3 is a great game. But it’s also got the greatest game of all time hidden inside of it. A game of strategy, skill, and chance. A game that tests the true mettle of men and women alike. A game that will take your life as easily as you let it. That game is Gwent, and Gwent is escaping the Witcher 3. Although not as soon as we’d hoped.
Ridiculous hyperbole aside, I like Gwent a whole lot, and I’m pretty excited to dig into the beta. The initial closed beta was initially announced to begin in September, but CD Projekt recently sent out an email announcing that it would be delayed until October. The sadness of this announcement cannot be overstated.
The message reads “We know we can make a first impression only once, and want to be sure everything is ready before we blast off. Delivering a good game is more important to us than keeping a deadline. Still, that doesn’t mean we don’t realize that delays can be disappointing, and we apologize for making you wait.”
The closed beta now has a date of October 25, so be sure to sign up in time. Perhaps the delay is for the best, as it pushes back the inevitable destructive effect this game will have on both my work and social life.
