Blizzard has announced that World of Warcraft: Shadowlands beta characters will be wiped this week, as testing for the upcoming expansion continues.
The Shadowlands beta character wipe will take place as the planned weekly update is applied. Blizzard is taking this route because “many of the bug reports we’ve received are related to player-characters getting into a broken state due to changes in questlines or Covenant flow”, Community Manager Kaivax explained.
“These are not bugs that could occur in a live environment, and they often mask other issues that we still need to identify and fix.” he added in a post on the forums</a>.

Thankfully, players will be able to continue testing World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’s features by either copying existing character or using templates found on the beta servers.
“Thereafter, on test realms you’ll find that Renown with all Covenants will be set back to its initial, Week 1 state. Please note that there will be two options for template test characters: On the Maw and Oribos realms, you’ll find character copy and Level 50 templates for testing the initial experience.” Kaivax added.
“On the Torghast realm, there will be Level 60 character templates and vendors that support PvP, dungeon, and raid testing. This will skip the Shadowlands level-up content and put the test character right before their Covenant choice.”
The Shadowlands beta update that will wipe current characters is scheduled for “late Wednesday morning (PDT)”.
Players will get a first taste of the Shadowlands experience when the pre-patch goes live prior to the expansion’s October 27 release date.
