There’s a fantastic early-game weapon for Dune Awakening called Kaleff’s Drinker found in the Hagga Basin. It automatically drains blood from enemies you kill, storing anywhere from a litre to up to two liters (2000 ml). This makes it an excellent way to build up your water supply quickly, even if you aren’t a melee-based class.
You need to unlock the Fabricator in the story to be able to craft this weapon, and it stays useful through the late game.
Where to find the schematic for Kaleff’s Drinker
The first thing you’ll need to craft this fantastic blade is the schematics. Good news: they’re easy to find. Bad news: you’ve got to cross the open desert without becoming sandworm bait, and then fight off some bandits.
The schematics are in the Atreides shipwreck, the Wreck of the Alcyon, in the northern Hagga Basin. It’s not far, but be sure you’re well-equipped and hydrated. If you can, travel at night.
Once you arrive, deal with the bandits however your class sees fit—stab, shoot, or send them dancing naked in the desert with the weirding way. Expect around six hostile scavengers across the wreck.
Head inside and make your way to the very end of the ship. Behind the captain’s console, you’ll find some stairs. Go up and follow the path. Just before the door, in the right-hand corner, there’s a large chest containing some loot and the schematics you need.
Next to the chest is the security band for the locked door.
Keep an eye out for Plasteel Microflora Fiber
Make sure to check every container you come across! Another resource required for the blade is Plasteel Microflora Fiber, which can only be obtained from specific containers. It’s pretty easy to spot, so keep an eye out and save yourself a trip back.
Where to find Spice Infused Copper Dust
One key component you’ll need for the knife is Spice-Infused Copper Dust. This can’t be crafted at a fabricator or found in the wreck, so you’ll have to source it elsewhere.
The most reliable way to get a steady supply is from an outpost called Broken Stone Station, located in the southern part of the Basin. The only catch is that more than a handful of hostile scavengers lurk here, so expect a fight.
How to craft the Kaleff’s Drinker
After clearing the scavengers, go to the northwest building of the outpost. Inside, a large chest holds some loot, 3–8 Spice-Infused Copper Dust, and schematics for a unique rifle.
Finally, return to your shelter, open your inventory, and select the Kaleff’s Drinker schematic. Use the option at the bottom right to unlock the crafting recipe. Once unlocked, you’ll find it under the ‘Combat’ category in your fabricator.
To craft it, you’ll need 5 Copper, 2 Spice Infused Copper Dust, and Plasteel Microflora Fiber in your inventory or chests for your fabricator to craft it.
With this weapon and a few blood bags, you can stock your filters and cisterns with scavengers. Great for a sandstormy day, but if you lose it, you will need to get more schematics to remake it.
